Memory Verse Week Three

1 Corinthians 6:19&20

What, do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, Who is in you, Whom you have received from God? You are not your own, you were bought with a price. Therefore, honor God with your body!

Devotion for Week Three

Beloved!

The past two weeks we have talked about change, spiritually and mentally. This week, I am going to talk to you a little about the changes that we can expect to take place in our physical bodies.

I have seen some pictures of Jesus that portray Him as a rather frail person. I believe that the Jesus of the scriptures is quite a different person. We know that until the age of 30 when He began His earthly ministry, He earned His living as a carpenter. I am sure that His trade required great physical strength. He must have had to carry large pieces of wood and stone to build the structures that He and His father built.

Once He started His ministry, we know that He walked everywhere He went. He walked from Tyre to Sidon in one day, that is a 40 mile journey. (see Matt. 15:21-29) He wasn't wearing Nike tennis shoes, He was wearing homemade sandals as He walked over the rough and rugged terrain. I imagine some of the disciples grumbling as they walked that long way with Him, I would have complained too I am sure.

Another thing we know is that Jesus carried His cross, after He had been beaten almost to the point of death. He must have had a very strong fit body to withstand all of that, and then carry His cross up the hill to Golgotha!

Jesus calls us to follow His example! Are we willing to deny our flesh, are we willing to take the best possible care of these bodies that God has given us so we can serve Him to the best of our ability every day for the rest of our lives?

One big physical difference we should be seeing is that hopefully, we are learning to eat differently. Every weight loss program that I have ever gone on before, I could hardly wait to give up and start eating everything I wanted to again. That was my mind-set. It was always a temporary thing, maybe to lose weight for an event, or something. That's why I was always destined to gain the weight back again. I never really changed my lifestyle!

Only with a lifestyle change will we ever be able to get this weight off, and keep it off and quit the yo-yoing back and forth!

The other physical change of course is the changes that will take place as we exercise. I wrote more about that in the blog that follows this one.

Expect some physical changes Beloved! Embrace the changes, and see how good it is! However small the changes may be at first, keep doing it, it will become a habit, and you will see the benefits from your faithfulness and obedience to what God is calling you to. God will bless your efforts and multiply them back to you in a way you never dreamed possible.

With God's help we will never go back to our old ways again. Will we make mistakes, of course, I am black and blue from beating myself up over my failures. But we are not giving up! We are getting up, no matter how many times we fall down!

Please, take the time to memorize the scripture for this week. Maybe it is very familiar to you. Then go over it every chance you get, dwell on it, let it become part of the fabric of your soul. God's word brings change! Yes, to our physical body as well as every other part of us!

I love you all very much!

Week Three-Exercise!

Hi Everyone!

This week we talk about exercise, no, it is not a dirty word! These bodies were made to move! No more excuses! Let's get started, if you haven't already done so.

This has been a most incredible summer in Michigan, no kidding! I can't remember a morning that I haven't been able to walk in the neighborhood. And I love that! Walking on the tread mill just is so boring! I love getting outside and seeing all of God's beauty around me.

7.30am, and I am walking. 2 miles, in 30 minutes, 5 times a week. Then 10 minutes on the rowing machine each day. It has become a habit that I look forward to every day.

I know I have more time than most of you, but you can do it. Start small, just a minute or two, and gradually build up to a longer time. Your body will thank you!

I love you all! I am cheering for you!
